I am so Overjoyed with happiness to finally share this with everyone! My very own line Estelle & June featuring bibs, blankies, hats, headbands, burps, and more is now in partnership with The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). For each product we sell from the Estelle & June line, a like item will be donated to CHOP, that simple. So for each bib sold, a bib will be donated and so on and so own with NO limits.

Let me briefly share with you all why I am so overjoyed to be able to work with CHOP and my personal connection. Back in 2006 when I gave birth to my son Charles things in the delivery room did not go as planned and Charles and I both almost died. Luckily, with quick action of the medical team Charles was born via emergency C-Section, while I was emergently intubated and given General Anesthesia. After the delivery all was well {so we thought} and we tried to get beyond this unexpected tragic event. On September 11th, 2006 my then 3 week old newborn went completely unresponsive at home. I am a Registered Nurse, but that night that did not matter one bit I froze and was absolutely petrified. I stayed on the phone with 911 in the middle of the street awaiting the arrival of the ambulance which felt like an absolute eternity. Meanwhile, Charles would take little mini breaths but was completely unarousable until about 3 minutes from our local hospital at which point he vomited violently in the ambulance and then began to cry. Our local hospital stabilized him, and I requested he be transferred to CHOP, which is about 40 minutes from our home. He was transferred that next morning.

Upon arrival at CHOP we were exhausted, scared, worried, and absolutely dumbfounded with the “why me” question running rampant in our heads. We were greeted by the CHOP team and went over past medical history of the family, history of the pregnancy, and history of the delivery a hundred times over our hospitalization. Charles was hospitalized at CHOP for a period of about 2 weeks over which time he underwent numerous tests, tests I honestly did not know existed. Some that were incredibly scary and at times being warned that he may die.

Here is a photo of Charles and I during his hospitalization, I apologize for my appearance not my best of moments.

Charles had a very rough first year of life, and had many steps ahead and many steps behind in his development. I will not go into all that with you all specifically, however he suffered a multitude of health concerns from a heart condition to swallowing condition, and Cerebral Palsey was of great concern. After aggressive Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, his neurologist, cardiologist, ENT specialist, and entire care team we got threw things and by 18 months of age all milestones were met! If you were to meet my son today you would have absolutely no idea he had a problem a day in his life.

CHOP is an amazing place where miracles happen and HOPE lives. The organization has embedded many practices into the hospital environment to help the families and patients be more at home, some patients are hospitalized for weeks and even months at a time. During our hospitalization two really small things are still remembered in our minds 5 years later. One small thing was the Wawa cart (Think 711 for those unfamiliar with the area) that came around to each patients room offering FREE snacks and drinks to the families and patients. Another small memory that we have was an organization came around and gave each patient a small plush Hershey Kiss. We still have this Hershey Kiss in my son’s room. These 2 minor small acts of random kindness, are still remembered by our family and for a brief moment during our most difficult time at the hospital gave us some simple happiness.

When I decided to design and launch my own line Estelle & June, I had made it my mission for the line to have purpose and meaning. Not to be just another textile company on the market. I even named the line after my maternal grandmother’s middle name {ESTELLE} and my husband’s maternal grandmother’s middle name {JUNE}. However, I was not satisfied with the name being enough. SOOO…. after gaining the courage to speak with CHOP about my proposal they loved the idea, my mission and vision for the line was born {Healing through kindness, one child at a time}. For each product sold in the Estelle and June Collection a like item will be donated to CHOP. The purpose of our donation to the children and their families is to offer an unexpected random act of kindness to brighten their day and their families. To bring a smile to their face, and warmth to their hearts. I was there and have been through the scary unknown times as a parent, and any little bit of sunshine was so greatly appreciated.

My little boy turned 5 this past August, and here is a recent photo from our trip to Disney World this past Fall:
